The Dory Shop

Since 1917, The Dory Shop in Lunenburg has been building traditional Banks dories and other fine wooden
craft for fishermen and recreational boaters alike. And though they’ve added a few power tools, they’re
proud to say they still use traditional methods and quality materials. That’s not to say nothing ever changes there: They now build more than dories - from nutshell prams to schooners and everything in between, they hand craft each boat using the same care and traditional techniques. They also offer dory building classes. Open to people with basic woodworking skills, these two-week courses have limited enrollment to ensure participants get plenty of hands-on wooden boat building experience.
