Overview
The Mechanical Designer is responsible for developing innovative, accurate, and cost-effective mechanical designs from concept through manufacturing and commissioning. This role works closely with internal teams, fabrication shops, and customers to deliver high-quality solutions across ABCO’s four main industries: food processing, marine, environmental, and industrial fabrication.
Duties & Responsibilities
· Create detailed mechanical designs, drawings, and bill of materials for manufacturing
· Develop conceptual designs and assist with proposals and technical sales support
· Prepare project cost estimates and assist with budgeting
· Coordinate projects across departments to ensure alignment and efficiency
· Collaborate with fabrication teams to optimize manufacturability and production processes
· Perform quality checks to ensure designs meet company and customer standards
· Support commissioning, troubleshooting, and performance evaluation of installed equipment
· Ensure all deliverables meet deadlines, specifications, and cost targets
Additional Responsibilities
· Communicate effectively with customers during design, sales, and project execution phases
· Contribute to the development and improvement of standard operating procedures
· Stay current with industry trends, technologies, and manufacturing methods
· Participate in team initiatives and continuous improvement efforts
· Provide support to other departments as needed
· Travel occasionally for site visits, commissioning, and customer support
Skills & Qualifications
Qualifications & Skills:
· Diploma in Mechanical Engineering Design or related program required
· 2 + years’ mechanical design experience required. We are looking for individuals of intermediate to senior skill level.
· Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or equivalent)
· Strong understanding of mechanical design principles and engineering fundamentals
· Experience with fabrication processes (welding, machining, forming, etc.)
· Ability to produce and interpret detailed technical drawings
· Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
· Effective communication and teamwork abilities
· Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word)
Preferred:
· Experience in industrial equipment, food machinery, marine, or custom fabrication

Work Environment:
