Boat Builder / Boat Builder Apprentice

• Read and interpret blueprints, drawings and sketches to determine specifications and calculate requirements
• Prepare layouts in conformance to building codes, using measuring tools
• Measure, cut, shape, assemble and join materials made of wood, wood substitutes, lightweight steel and other materials
• Build foundations, install floor beams, work on hull desgin and construction (Internal and External structures of the boat). etc.
• Fit and install trim items, such as doors, stairs, moulding and hardware in a boat
• Maintain, repair and renovate boats and internal infrastructure.
• May prepare cost estimates for clients.
• Work under a certified boatbuilder towards achieving the boat building license, log work hours, and follow instructions required to complete the licensure.
• Protect and maintain workplace health and safety
• Participate and Contribute to a project team in the boating industry • Ensure the standards and hours of Boatbuilding certifications are met

• Wooden/Metal/Composite boatbuilder

ASSOCIATED TITLES

• Completion of secondary school may be required.
• Completion of a three- to four-year apprenticeship program or a combination of over four years of work experience in the trade and some high school, college or industry courses in the field is usually required to be eligible for trade certification.
• Previous experience would be an asset for apprenticeship opportunities.
