Overview
This is a leadership position. Beyond doing exceptional work with your own hands, you’ll set the standard for the shop, mentor other team members, and help us build a professional, detail-driven environment from the ground up. We want someone who can run their own work independently and bring others up to their level.
Duties & Responsibilities
Surface Preparation & Fairing — Longboarding, blocking, and fairing hulls and superstructures to perfectly straight, distortion-free lines.
Premium Coating Application — Priming and spraying high-end marine polyurethane topcoats (e.g. Awlgrip, Alexseal).
Gelcoat & Composite Repair — Precision fiberglass repairs, structural gouge fixes, and flawless gelcoat colour-matching.
Final Finishing — Machine compounding, polishing, and applying advanced ceramic or polymer coatings to a swirl-free, high-gloss shine.
Environmental Discipline — Strict dust control, clean masking lines, and humidity management within tented or indoor containment.
Team Leadership — Setting quality standards, mentoring teammates, and shaping a professional shop culture.
Skills & Qualifications
The Eye for Detail — You spot a low spot, a dust speck, or a sanding scratch from across the shop and refuse to coat over it until it’s perfect.
Leadership & Independence — The judgment to run your own work and the ability to guide and mentor others.
Marine Material Familiarity — Practical knowledge of marine epoxies, fairing compounds, and specialized topcoat systems.
Reliable Transportation — Able to commute to our Morris Island shop and job sites year-round.
Portfolio of Work (an asset) — Photos or video of past fairing, painting, or gelcoat work are a strong asset, though not required.
Working Conditions
Full-time, Year-Round, On Site

Compensation
Starting Wage — $25–$30/hr for this leadership role, set by your performance during the training period.
Paid Training & Practical Demonstration — A two-week paid evaluation period on general shop builds and lower-stakes projects — not the fine teak-and-holly work — so you can prove your standards and earn your way up to the finish jobs. Complete the one-month probation and earn a bonus bringing your training pay up to full wage.
Medical Benefits — Eligibility one month after the training period.
Project-Based Bonuses

To Apply
Send your resume — and a photo portfolio of your best finishes if you have one (before/after fairing, spraying, or gelcoat work is welcome). A short conversation is our first step.
