Lead Marine Carpenter/Joiner

Morris Island, NS

Boudeau's Boat Building

Posting last updated:

June 24, 2026

Overview

This is a leadership position for a carpenter who can do it all and oversee others doing it. You’ll handle everything from structural work to fine interior joinery, set the standard for the shop, mentor the team, and help build a professional, detail-driven environment. We want someone who can run their own bench independently and bring others up to their level.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Fine Interior Joinery & Cabinetry — Building and fitting cabinetry, trim, and finish woodwork, including teak-and-holly soles
• and bright-finished detail work.
• Structural Carpentry — Bulkheads, stringers, deck framing, and structural repairs built true and to spec.
• Templating & Fitting — Scribing and fitting components to the complex curves and surfaces of a yacht interior.
• Material Knowledge — Working confidently with marine plywood, hardwoods, veneers, epoxies, and modern composites.
• Finish & Detail — Prepping, sanding, and finishing woodwork to a clean, client-ready standard.
• Team Leadership — Setting quality standards, mentoring teammates, and shaping a professional shop culture.

Skills & Qualifications

• The Eye for Detail — You see a gap, a proud joint, or an off line before anyone else and refuse to leave it.
• Full-Range Capability — Comfortable moving from rough structural work to fine finish joinery, and able to lead both.
• Leadership & Independence — The judgment to run your own work and the ability to guide and mentor others.
• Reliable Transportation — Able to commute to our Morris Island shop and job sites year-round.

Working Conditions

We operate a high-end marine refinishing and refit service on Morris Island, NS, specializing in luxury yachts. We provide a steady, year-round working environment — climate-controlled shop space in the winter and active yard and refit projects through the boating season.

Compensation

Starting Wage — $25–$30/hr for this leadership role, set by your performance during the training period.

Paid Training & Practical Demonstration — A two-week paid evaluation period on general shop builds and lower-stakes projects — not the fine teak-and-holly work — so you can prove your standards and earn your way up to the finish jobs. Complete the one-month probation and earn a bonus bringing your training pay up to full wage.

Medical Benefits — Eligibility one month after the training period.

Project-Based Bonuses

No Winter Layoffs — Secure, stable, year-round work in a sector usually plagued by seasonal shutdowns.

Pride in Your Craft — An environment where patience and precision are celebrated, not rushed.

Premium Tools & Environment — Proper materials, machinery, and shop space to do your best work.

To Apply

Send your resume — and a photo portfolio of your best work if you have one (joinery, cabinetry, or structural builds are welcome). A short conversation is our first step.
