If you share our values and would like to work with a uniquely specialized organization, ABCO is presently seeking a Naval Architect / Marine Engineer (Naval Architect) to join our growing team. This is a permanent full-time role based in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia.

Duties & Responsibilities

Reporting to the Vice President of Engineering the Naval Architect will be responsible for supporting the design and analysis of ABCO’s innovative uncrewed surface vessel (USV) program in accordance with customer, Classification Society, and regulatory requirements. They will participate in concept feasibility design studies which will address whole ship sizing and performance analyses, requirements validation, and design optimization.

The Naval Architect will perform mechanical and structural designing and drafting tasks for new builds. In accordance with design requirements, they will assist in preparing design calculations including hydrostatic, weight, and stability analyses. They will coordinate design integration through inputs from engineering disciplines to establish principal characteristics and design features as well as assist in reviewing design proposals and specifications.

Skills & Qualifications

As the ideal candidate, you will have a bachelor's Degree or Technical Diploma in Naval Architecture or Marine Engineering or a related field, The candidate will have the ability to register as a Professional Engineer (P. Eng.) in Nova Scotia.

The successful candidate will be proficient in Solidworks & Rhino or other 3D modeling software. The Naval Architect will be knowledgeable in various calculations including stability & weight, resistance & power, and seakeeping. You will have experience designing and analyzing ship structures and mechanical systems and will be experienced in using the Classification Society Rules and Transport Canada

Regulations. You will have strong technical writing skills with an aptitude to produce and present clear, detailed written technical reports.

The Naval Architect will be self-motivated with an eagerness to learn the manufacturing process and teach with excellent time management and troubleshooting skills. The Naval Architect will be organized and dependable and will be an effective communicator. You know how to effectively collaborate across various functions of the organization with the adaptability to evolve in a changing work environment. Preference will be given to candidates fully vaccinated for COVID-19.
