There are no two jobs the same at our marina. We are looking for an ideal candidate who's outgoing, enjoys working around boats, the water, and looking to contribute to the growth of the company. We are adding to our Service team and are looking for a Marine Service Technician / Marine Mechanic.

You need to have experience in all areas of boat repair but focused on diesel engines, stern drives & fiberglass repair.

The job is generally Monday to Friday 8:30 to 5 however, flex hours are available. Want to work some extra time on the weekends, no problem, want some extra time off in the winter, no problem. The boating season in Nova Scotia is limited so repair peak times are spring and fall, but we can work together to find the right schedule.

We are an established marina for over 17 years and the original owner started in the early '90s. We have some of the top equipment for handling boats in the province and with an established client base, there is generally no shortage of work. Located just outside of Halifax so you don't have to deal with traffic and set on one of the most beautiful sailing bays in the world. We are an established dealer for many brands and are growing every year.

Duties & Responsibilities

Duties and Responsibilities

-Inspect boats and decide on the type of work that needs to be done and provide an accurate estimate on time and materials required
-Review work orders/timelines with the service manager and other management to ensure projects are completed in a time required
-Compile parts lists for the completion of the work
-Order parts or provide the appropriate staff members with all information (part numbers, brand name, the pictures time frame required, etc.) required to complete a project.
-Work efficiently and professionally to meet deadlines and performance goals while maintaining a positive attitude
-Repairs and maintains boats and similar vessels in marine service facility: Examines repair or installation orders, drawings, and vessels, utilizing knowledge based on past experience to determine the extent of repairs required or modifications necessary for installation of equipment, accessories, and hardware.
-Consult with supervisor regarding installation or repair problems, sequence of operations, and time required to complete repair or installation.
-Coordinates with Yard Manager or other staff for the movement of vessels required for repairs.
-Tests engine, transmission, rigging, propeller, navigational, and related systems to diagnose malfunctions, using various measuring instruments.
-Installs and tests steering gear, sanitation and refrigeration systems, electrical systems and accessories, hardware, trim, and related components, following manufacturer's instructions and drawings.
-Work with management to quote work and the project management of installations such as engines/outboards.
-Assist with maintenance of Marina Yard Equipment as needed. Coordinate with the Yard Manager for those repairs and maintenance.

Skills & Qualifications

Key Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

-Maintain a service-oriented, positive and respectful attitude towards management, staff, and clients
-Must be honest, dependable, and forthright, with the ability to work without direct supervision
-Maintain a service-oriented and positive, respectful attitude towards SWMS clients and other staff members
-Maintain knowledge, understanding, and comply with all SWMS Policies, Rules, and applicable Occupational Health and Safety legislation
-Operate SWMS vehicles, vessels, and equipment in a competent, professional, and safe manner.
-Meet Hourly/Revenue Expectations as determined on a quarterly basis and adhere to cost-saving measures.
-Knowledge of Marina Operations and safety techniques
-Marine Service Technician Certificate or a minimum of 5 years experience
-Current First Aid and WHMIS certification
-Troubleshooting skills
-Forklift Operators Certificate – an asset but not required

Working Conditions

-Must be able to work indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions
-Regularly work in small or tight spaces
-Ability to work on the water


Compensation and Benefits:

-$39,621 - $88,061 a year
-Heath/ Dental and RRSP Sharing
-Proximity to Halifax and unique projects to work on
