ABYC Composite Boat Builder Certification

There will be a three-day ABYC Composite Boat Builder Certification course taking from Tuesday, January 10 through to Thursday, January 12, 2012.

Facilitated by ABYC, this complete and ‘all-encompassing’ composites course is designed for boatbuilders and manufacturers.

Topics include:

  • marine composite construction
  • production and advanced manufacturing processes
  • structural details
  • hardware installation
  • quality assurance and
  • safety and environmental compliance.

Each student will be shipped an ABYC study guide which should be studied prior to class.  Your ABYC study guide contains all the pertinent ABYC standards for the course.

Course Times:
Tuesday, January 10th: Class time
Wednesday, January 11th: Class time
Thursday, January 12th: Review / Certification exam

ABYC Facilitator Information:
Scott M. Lewit is the President of Structural Composites, Inc. and COMPSYS, Inc. and a founding partner with the firms.  Mr. Lewit earned his Master of Science degree in ocean engineering in 1985 from the Florida Institute of Technology.  He earned his Certified Composite Technician (CCT) status and CCT Instructor certification in 2001.  In 2003, he was a principle in developing the composites training program for ABYC.  Mr. Lewit is a co-inventor of the resin recirculation moulding process and the patented PRISMA preform technology.  Mr. Lewit has served on the Society of Manufacturing Engineers Advisory Board and on the Technical Advisory Committee, CCT Steering Committee and Magazine Steering Committee of the Composite Fabricators Association.  He was the 2002 Chairman of the Executive Steering Committee (ESC) for the Navy Center for Composites Technology and is currently serving another term on the ESC.  Mr. Lewit was the winner of the best presentation award for composites at the 2002 Defense Manfacturers Conference.  He has served on the Environmental Protection Agency`s marine manufacturing maximum achievable control technology stakeholders committee for closed moulding, and also as co-chair for materials in the Navy’s high-speed sealift initiative. 

Fees:
NSBA Members - $450 + HST = $517.50
Non-NSBA Members - $500 + HST = $575.00

Registration:
Study guides are included in the course fee.  Registrants will receive ABYC Certification upon completing and passing the certification exam.  If you would like to attend or register an employee, please complete the ABYC Composite Boat Builder Certification registration form and fax it back to the NSBA office by December 19th.  Or, you can email  Toba Offman.
