Boat Builder Employment Preparation Program

The Nova Scotia Boatbuilders Association in partnership with the former Department of Education – now the Nova Scotia Department of Labour and Advanced Education (LAE) Apprenticeship Training Division – and the Nova Scotia Community College School of Fisheries, facilitated a Pilot Boat Builder Modified Apprenticeship Program (MAP) in the fall of 2006. All MAP participants were registered with the province as apprentices and afforded job opportunities, with the final decision to hire being that of the potential employer.

The NSBA  facilitated a similar training exercise in Lunenburg in January 2012 under the header “Boat Builder Employment Preparation Program (BBEPP)”.  The BBEPP, which was financed under the Works for You LAE Employment NS initiative, covered topics such as Mentorship and Boatbuilding History, and even offered a two-week dory-building course facilitated by The Dory Shop in Lunenburg.

The NSBA appreciates the support of Employment NS and the Employment Solutions Society, who worked with the NSBA to facilitate enrollments, as well as the staff at the Lunenburg Academy, participating employers, and instructors who have supported the program.

Continue to check the NSBA website for information on future BBEPPs in the province.
